I wear a lot of hats. I am happiest when I am creating things -- baking, gardening, building, writing, taking photos, or making art.
My writing explores themes at the edges of the norm, from the very dark to the very silly. I've honed my skills through a constant stream of haiku and media reviews in between longer works.
I love taking photos. I have taken thousands and my friends and family are used to my pausing mid-step or mid-sentence to capture whatever might be in front of my lens.
I have tried my hand at all manner of arts and crafts and have never really settled on one medium which is why I chose the name "Creative Miscellany" for my business name. Among the miscellany you are likely to find art cards, plush toys, hats, finger puppets, books, calendars, papercrafts, and jewelry, along with writing, photography, web design and other tech stuff.
I live in Victoria, British Columbia which provides plenty of inspiration — I have a very deep connection to the West Coast rainforest and the Pacific Ocean. My daughter is equally creative so there is always something "in process" under our roof.
I write a lot -- fiction, non fiction, poetry, and copy writing. I regularly contribute to Life as a Human, I keep several blogs and I self-publish books and e-books through marketplaces like Kindle and Lulu. Follow the links below for more:
I was fascinated by cameras and photography when I was younger but film was so expensive, I took few photos and many weren't much to look at. With digital photography, I've been able to try different angles and take several shots of one subject, and basically sharpen my skills. I have thousands of photos, some of which have been used in publications and appeared in web articles, some of which are available under Creative Commons licenses.
If you are interested in using any of my copyrighted photos, please contact me and I'll be happy to give you a quote for use. Follow the links below for more:
I tend to binge create. I will sit down and spend 6 hours on a single focus, whether sewing, beading, collage art, or whatever, and in the end come out with a stack of finished pieces to sell. Follow the links below for more:
I have a real love-hate relationship with Victoria. I was born here and have lived here most of my life. It's expensive, but it's also kind of paradise. I write about the city on my Views of Victoria site and I document it as a member of the Victoria Grid Project. Follow the links below for more:
